The legal minimum tyre tread is 1.6mm.
Recommended tyre pressure will vary from car to car. You can find out what your tyre pressure should be on a small sticker on your bodywork, normally on the inside of the driverdoor or in the vehicle handbook. Find out more about tyre pressure.
To check whether your tread meets the legal minimum tyre tread of 1.6mm, simply place a 20p coin in one of your tyre grooves. If the raised edge on the 20p is not visible, then your tyres are likely within the legal limit. Find out more about car tread depth. Unless you have run flat tyres, you must stop once you notice a flat tyre – it is recommended that you only drive a few metres to a safe spot.
