Width of the tyre measured in millimetres from sidewall to sidewall. In this example the tyre has a width of 205 mm.
The tyre profile refers to the height of the tyre sidewall as a % of the tyre width. 55 for example is a percentage of the overall tyre width.
The rim measurement is the rim diameter of the tyre. It is a two digit number that can be found just after the letter R on the sidewall.
The speed rating of the tyre indicates the maximum speed that your tyre is legally approved for. This will be represented as a single letter after the wheel size detail.

There are many elements to car tyres, many of which should be taken into consideration when you come to purchase new tyres. Frequently Asked Tyre Questions

The legal minimum tyre tread is 1.6mm.

Recommended tyre pressure will vary from car to car. You can find out what your tyre pressure should be on a small sticker on your bodywork, normally on the inside of the driverdoor or in the vehicle handbook. Find out more about tyre pressure.

To check whether your tread meets the legal minimum tyre tread of 1.6mm, simply place a 20p coin in one of your tyre grooves. If the raised edge on the 20p is not visible, then your tyres are likely within the legal limit. Find out more about car tread depth. If you are still not sure, visit your local SETYRES where a specialist technician will check the tread for you.

Unless you have run flat tyres, you must stop once you notice a flat tyre – it is recommended that you only drive a few metres to a safe spot.

Carrying a spare tyre is not a legal requirement and many vehicle manufacturers choose to supply a tyre repair kit instead of a spare tyre to save weight. Take a look at the options you can chose from to keep you moving if you do suffer tyre damage with our guide to spare tyres.
